Solid Waste Service Day Change Starting July 20
Starting on Monday, July 20, 2009, Solid Waste Services is changing its collection services to a 4 day week, Monday through Thursday, to provide more efficient service across the City. Route changes were designed to minimize changing the collection day for most residents. All residents with Friday service, however, are changing to a new day.
What is my new service day?
On July 6, the City sent out postcards to all City residents, indicating their new service day. For most, this means no change in day. Everyone with a Friday collection day, however, will definitely be changed to a different day, starting the week of July 20, 2009.
If you do not receive a postcard by July 11, please call 311 (916-264-5011). They will be able to look up your service day. 311 is also available via email at 311@cityofsacramento.org.
Can I look up my service day online?
Please use the City’s Trash Pickup Day form to see your current and new service days:

What is my street sweeping day?
Street sweeping is changing from its previous monthly schedule. The Trash Pickup Day form will show the new schedule once it is established.
My driver didn’t show up at their usual time. Why?
With the changes in routes, your driver may get to your home earlier or later than before. Please make sure your cans are at the curb by 6:00am, and give your driver until 4:00pm to empty your can. If your can is still full by then, please call 311 (916-264-5011) to report a missed pickup. Solid Waste Services will send a driver to empty your can as soon as possible.
For example, currently your driver may arrive at your house at 7:10am. After July 20, even if your service day does not change, they may arrive at 6:30am, or instead much later in the day. Your collection time may even change from time to time, as drivers change routes, or perhaps one driver is filling in for another due to illness or a vacation.
My postcard lists a service I don’t receive. Am I getting a new service?
No. This service change only affects the days of your service. It does not add or remove existing services.
Your utility bill is currently available online. You can also call 311 (916-264-5011) if you have questions about your bill and services.
All my service days are unchanged. Why did I receive a card?
Solid Waste Services wanted to be sure that everyone knew their service day, changed or unchanged. If everyone receives a card, the few residents we miss will be more likely to know about it.
Why the change?
Solid Waste Services is moving to a 10-hour work day, with a 4-day work week. The longer work day allows the driver to empty more cans and fill up the truck more completely while completing a route. It also will help reduce overtime costs.
I am a commercial customer. Should I expect any changes?
No, this change in service schedule is only for residential customers, and commercial customers who have curbside cans. Customers who use a dumpster (such as at an office building, or an apartment complex) are not affected by this change.
