The City of Sacramento is dedicated to continuous improvement. To advance this effort, the City Manager’s Office tracks performance measures for every department. Department performance measures are intended to:

  • Give a snapshot to managers on how a department is performing
  • Help managers understand external factors that impact their work
  • Be useful in managing resources

The City Manager’s Office also supports the work of the City Auditor's Office on The National Citizen Survey. The National Citizen Survey (The NCS) report is a report about the “livability” of Sacramento.

The NCS captures resident’s opinions within three pillars of a community: Community Characteristics, Governance, and Participation. This information is captured across eight central areas: Safety, Mobility, Natural Environment, Built Environment, Economy, Recreation and Wellness, Education and Enrichment and Community Engagement. The report provides the opinions of approximately 500 residents of the City of Sacramento. The NCS is an annual report.
