In March of 2019, the City of Sacramento approved a preliminary term sheet, which outlines the details for a public-private partnership for the construction and operation of a new stadium and investment in critical Downtown Sacramento Railyards infrastructure.

In 2019, Sacramento was awarded a Major League Soccer expansion team and Sacramento Republic FC becoming the league's 29th team, with the first season beginning in 2022.

The MLS Stadium shall be a new, first-class, state-of-the art, outdoor multi-purpose stadium that will serve as the home of the Sacramento Republic FC and will host concerts, sporting events, community-oriented events, and numerous other events that an investor group could choose to host at the stadium.

The 20,000 seat stadium will be located in the 14-acre Railyards site, which is located between 8th and 10th streets, and south of the former railroad berm that forms the northern boundary of the project site.

A Privately Funded Stadium

The Sac Republic Investor Group will pay for and own the stadium and be responsible for all aspects of the stadium design, finance, construction, operation, maintenance, repairs and improvements. A document known as the Enhanced Infrastructure Financing District was established to utilize new incremental property tax revenue produced from the stadium and other development within the proposed boundaries to finance public infrastructure needed for the project.
