Sacramento Valley Station welcomes its new Amtrak ticket room!
One of many new improvements coming to the station as part of a massive renovation
March 21, 2016
The new Amtrak ticket room is one of many improvements within the Sacramento Valley Station’s full restoration. The new ticket room, which opened March 19, is in a more convenient location and includes a baggage check-in station and additional ticket agent windows.
Celebrating its 90th anniversary just a month ago, the station is undergoing significant improvements that will not only enhance the experience of rail and transit users, but also restore historic features of the building. Set to be completed by fall 2016, massive improvements to the station include new Amtrak offices, leasable office and retail space, and food vendors.
The renovation project will create a more hospitable, welcoming, and convenient transit station by renovating classic features of the building, crafting a dynamic urban center and gateway, and improving the condition of building spaces.
The station’s complete makeover is possible thanks to a U.S. Department of Transportation $15 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) discretionary grant program championed by U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui toward the $31 million construction cost.
