Steve Y. Itagaki, Supervising Deputy City Attorney
PRACTICE AREAS
Mr. Itagaki is the supervisor of the Strategic Projects & Research Division and the lead advisory attorney for the Office of Public Safety Accountability. As the supervisor of the SPR Division, Mr. Itagaki is charged with overseeing attorneys that provide legal advice to the City on complex projects and specialized areas of law.
BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Mr. Itagaki has served the Sacramento City Attorney’s Office since 1999.
Through the years he has practiced in every section within the office, including Advisory, Litigation, and Code Enforcement. He has served as lead advisory attorney for several different departments within the City, including Police, Community Development, Finance, and the Office of Cannabis Management. He has also represented the City in civil litigation, employee discipline, nuisance abatement actions, and criminal prosecutions.
Professional Affiliations
Mr. Itagaki is currently serving as a member of the Cannabis Regulations Committee of the League of California Cities’ City Attorneys Department. He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court, Eastern District of California, and all California State courts.
EDUCATION
Mr. Itagaki received a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from University of California, Los Angeles, and a juris doctor degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.
