Code of Ethics

Chapter 4.02 of the Sacramento City Code (Code) details the Code of Ethics for city officials, appointed officers, and city employees (elected official, appointee to a board or commission, employee or citizen volunteer authorized to act on behalf of the city). Except for knowing and willful violations of section 4.02.050 and section 4.02.060 of the Code, the violation of any provision of this chapter is not a misdemeanor or infraction. Violations may be reported to the Office of Compliance via the City’s Whistleblower Hotline for investigation and appropriate action.

In accordance with California Government Code section 53234 (also referred to as AB 1234), all City of Sacramento elected officials and appointed board and commission members are required to take two hours of State approved local ethics training. The first certification is due within one year of taking office, and then every two years thereafter. Compliance is monitored by the Office of the City Clerk.
