Current Planning

City staff in the Current Planning Division review private development project applications for consistency with the general plan, zoning, design guidelines, and other city development regulations; provide technical assistance and recommendations to the City Council, Planning and Design Commission, and other decision makers; and assist members of the public with planning questions and encourage participation in the planning process.

Depending on the scope of the project, a planning application may require a discretionary or ministerial review, and it may be decided at a staff level or require a public hearing.  To learn more about the most common types of planning application, please visit the Entitlements page.

Use the online AgencyCounter tool to learn more about planning applications currently in-process in your neighborhood.

To look-up the zoning designation for a piece of property, please visit the City’s online Land Information Lookup Application, or email the Planning Helpdesk staff at planning@cityofsacramento.org.
