RE-CERTIFICATIONRe-Certification is the process of renewing a firm's certification as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE), or as an Emerging Business Enterprise (EBE), with the City of Sacramento. Approximately two months before your certification with the City is due to expire, the Office of Small Business Development will send a notice advising you of your need to re-certify. Complete the Re-Certification Application, provide the required documents, and forward to the department at the address provided on the form. Depending on a number of variables, firms may be re-certified for up to 3 additional years. NOTE: If the OWNERSHIP of the business has changed in any fashion since last being certified by the City of Sacramento (for example, Previous-Owner A sold the business to New-Owner B), OR if the BUSINESS STRUCTURE has changed (for example, FROM a sole-proprietorship or FROM a partnership, TO a corporation), the business may need to provide additional, clarifying documents. After reviewing the file and approving the re-certification, the Office of Small Business Development will send a letter to the firm advising them of their new certification expiration date. NOTE: The Re-Certification Application is NOT to be used for provisional re-certification. (See the procedure discussed below.) PRIMARY and SECONDARY CERTIFYING / RE-CERTIFYING AGENCIES:The agency providing the original certification is known as the Primary Certifying Agency. Firms will be notified by the Primary Certifying Agency when their certification is due for renewal. Once re-certified by the Primary Certifying Agency, the firm can then apply for re-certification with the Secondary Certifying Agency (the City of Sacramento, Office of Small Business Development). This is called a Provisional Re-certification. The firm only need provide the Office of Small Business Development with a copy of the letter received from the Primary Certifying Agency in order to be provisionally re-certified. The Office of Small Business Development will, after review, send the firm a letter indicating the new date of certification expiration (which will be the same date as given by the Primary Certifying Agency). Should you have questions or need clarification on this process, feel free to contact us. |
