EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
FOR THE SMALL BUSINESS OWNER

     In general, there are two basic challenges facing every small business owner: Education and Financing.  Without much of either, a lot of businesses fail.  One emphasis of the City of Sacramento's Office of Small Business (OSB) Program is to outreach and assist small and emerging business in a meaningful manner that will help them develop their businesses . . . and succeed; develop and succeed to the point where they can begin doing business with the City . . which, in turn, helps the City meet its mandated small business participation goals, and also helps the small business community in the City of Sacramento.

     The City of Sacramento is keenly interested in promoting and supporting the economic vitality of our community and the surrounding region. We want Sacramento to be THE city of choice to live, learn, work and play.

     This page will provide small and emerging businesses with some opportunities to meet the education portion of these challenges. Through this page we will provide links to educational opportunities as they become known to us, and trust that you will find some of these opportunities of value to you and your business.

     The Schedule of Workshops and Seminars lists a variety of educational opportunities conducted by various agencies throughout the city.

     The Educational Links page will take you to the website of many of these agencies where you can look over their offerings for yourself, at your own pace.

     The City's Management Academy offers a 15-week intensive, hands-on learning experience that gives interested City of Sacramento residents an opportunity to interact with City management staff and learn about the challenges facing municipal government today.

     The City's Planning Academy offers a ten-week comprehensive course designed to educate and engage resident, business, and community leaders, in the City's Planning Initiatives and Smart Growth Prinicples.
