The Chongqing Trade & Education Office of the City of Sacramento (California’s Capital City)
The Sacramento Trade & Education Office in Chongqing, China is a cooperative venture of the City of Sacramento’s Economic Development Department and the California-Chongqing Trade and Commerce Organization (CACQ). Its purpose is to build lasting commercial and cultural links between Chongqing and the Greater Sacramento region by fostering face-to-face exchanges between businesses, educational institutions, and public officials in the respective municipalities.
The office has three primary functions:
- Identify and develop market opportunities in Chongqing and throughout southwest China for goods and services produced in the Greater Sacramento region;
- Attract Chinese investment to job-creating projects in the Greater Sacramento region; and
- Facilitate educational and cultural exchanges, including the enrollment of qualified Chinese students at colleges and universities throughout the Greater Sacramento region.
Why does the City of Sacramento have an office in Chongqing? Because any community seeking to harvest the fruits of the global economy must be forthcoming in telling its own story. Why would the people of Chongqing – a major industrial center and home to 33 million increasingly affluent residents -- do business with Sacramento area firms, invest in our region’s future, or send their children to be educated here if they’ve never heard of Sacramento? Fundamentally, the role of the City’s Chongqing office is to literally put Sacramento on the map in southwestern China.
