 Fire Chief Gary Loesch

Fire Chief Gary Loesch, sworn in on October 2, 2018, is a veteran Chief officer with extensive experience serving as the authority in planning, establishing, directing, and overseeing activities of personnel performing  fire suppression, medical response, rescue, prevention, and hazardous materials mitigation functions. Background in establishing and maintaining comprehensive and consistent training programs.

He has served in various leadership capacities, including chief officer of Southeastern Pennsylvania Task Force Contingent, Operation's Chief for Welcome America (4th of July) & Made in America (Labor Day) Festivals in Philadelphia, and Planning & Operations Chief for the World meeting of Families & Papal visit to Philadelphia in 2015.

Former Fire Chief Walt W. White was sworn in as Fire Chief in July 2014. He retired in March 2018.

In early 2012, the current and six former Fire Chiefs of the Sacramento Fire Department came together for an historic photo opportunity. This photograph commemorates the greatest number of Sacramento Fire Chiefs ever assembled together for a photo. Together their tenures spanned forty years!
