COURT-ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE WITH THE FRONT STREET ANIMAL SHELTER

Community Service

The Front Street Animal Shelter welcomes a limited number of applicants for our court-ordered community service program.

Court-ordered community service volunteers do not work hands-on with the shelter animals. They assist the staff with janitorial duties such as picking up litter, cleaning kennels, bagging dog food, washing dishes, washing laundry, and other tasks as assigned.

Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteer Requirements

This program is available for individuals who:

  • Are at least 16 years old
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Are willing to commit to a minimum of three months and 30 hours of service regardless if the court-mandated hours are less than 30
  • Have at least three months to complete their service hours
  • Are able to commit to a regular schedule and to follow through with their commitment
  • Can provide written documentation from the court verifying the offence for which they are completing service hours, and the names and contact information of two non-relative professional or personal references

This program is NOT available for offenders of:

  • Crimes involving animal mistreatment or abuse
  • Crimes of a violent nature
  • Crimes involving narcotics or controlled substances
  • Crimes involving theft
  • Crimes of a sexual nature
  • Crimes against children

The Front Street Animal Shelter is not able to accept all applicants for this program. Applicants will need to attend an interview to determine eligibility for this program. All Court-Ordered Community Service volunteers are required to abide by all policies of the Front Street Animal Shelter. The shelter has the right to dismiss a volunteer from service at any time and for any reason. Volunteers that successfully complete their service hours will be given a verification letter for court. Verification will not be provided until the volunteer has completed at least 30 hours of service, even if the mandated hours are less than 30.
