Citizens Advisory Committee

The City of Sacramento has a tradition of using citizen advisory groups to enhance community participation in matters of broad public concern.  The 2011 Redistricting Process was led by the City Council, with input from the public, the Sacramento Redistricting Citizens Advisory Committee (SRCAC) and City staff.

The committee was composed of fifteen members.  Each council member and the mayor appointed one member with the remaining four selected by the Personnel and Public Employee (P&PE) nomination process.  The role of the committee served as an advisory body to the City Council and represented the diversity of Sacramento.  There were a number of public meetings and opportunities for members of the public to learn about redistricting and to submit Redistricting proposals to the City.  The committee recommended options and reported back to City Council after organizing, analyzing, and refining, as necessary, proposals that met criteria set forth by the City Charter.
