 South Sacramento POP Units

Community Policing Specific Plan

The Sacramento Police Department South Command, is in the process of rebuilding and refreshing our Problem Oriented Police (POP) team. If you live in the city limits, south of Broadway and west of Hwy 99, we need your input. The foundation of the City's policing efforts here in Sacramento come from the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing. “Community policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques, to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime." Boiled down it is an approach that focuses on fostering and maintaining productive relationships between the police department and the community. While every Sacramento Police Officer is trained in and uses this philosophy in their day to day activities, our specialists in solving long term problems, tailored to each part of our city, is the Problem Oriented Policing (POP) team.

We have recently transferred a stellar Sergeant to the position and we are in the process of testing police officers to bring two additional officers to the team, to bring the total up to four officers and a sergeant. In addition to the staffing component we are forming our new strategic goals for the team. In that effort we are reaching out to you to help us determine exactly what issues and problems you want your POP team working on. Please take or copy and paste this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2278TLC to a short 5 question survey to have a hand in determining how we will be employing these dedicated officers in your neighborhood. The results of this survey, along with data driven crime analysis will form the Strategic Plan for your South POP team. This survey will be open for the next two weeks and we'll be updating you all again with the results.
