SEASONAL AQUATICS EMPLOYMENT

Each year, the City of Sacramento invites employment applications from professional individuals who can demonstrate they have what it takes to join the prestigious ranks of Sacramento’s aquatics team! Each year we typically hire between 120-150 seasonal staff for the following positions: Pool Manager, Assistant Manager, Management Senior Lifeguard, Senior Lifeguard, Lifeguard and Cashier.

POSITIONS

POOL MANAGER:

Oversees all operations at an assigned aquatic facility.  Supervises, trains, and evaluates subordinate staff; maintains superior guest relations; completes mandatory paperwork.  Pool Manager also provides, oversees and maintains a comprehensive aquatics program which may include swim lessons, recreational swim, swim team, lap swim, water aerobics, Jr. Lifeguard and pool rentals. Pool Manager will perform the duties of an on-site program supervisor. Communicates directly with supervisors and main office staff. Possesses knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, perform water rescues, CPR and First Aid. Follows oral and written instructions. Performs daily maintenance tasks. Pool Managers will be held responsible for all staff and programs at their assigned facility.

Employment Standards:

Must be 19 years of age.  Must have experience managing or assisting in the management of an aquatic facility.  Must be currently certified (or enrolled) in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid; First Aid for Public Safety Personnel  is required. At least one instructor certification is required. Lifeguard Training Instructor (LGI) certifications and First Aid for Public Safety Personnel Instructor certifications are desirable. Must attend the City of Sacramento Management Academy.  Applicants selected will be screened with a physical exam, fingerprints and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test.

ASSISTANT POOL MANAGER:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, supervises the pool, decks and surrounding areas of an aquatic facility. Enforces rules and regulations, prevents accidents, performs water rescues and first aid, instructs and supervises aquatic activities such as swimming lessons and other aquatic programs. Assistant Pool Manager’s will perform the duties of an on-site program supervisor. Assist in the oversight of an assigned aquatic facility by performing tasks such as (but not limited to): scheduling, training, supervising employees and aquatic programs, and maintaining the facility.  May act as a Pool Manager at the current Pool Manager’s discretion. Possesses knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, perform water rescues, CPR and First Aid. Follows oral and written instructions.  Performs daily maintenance tasks as assigned.

Employment Standards:

Must be at least 17 years of age. At least two years of experience at an aquatic facility as a lifeguard/swim instructor.  Must be currently certified (or enrolled) in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid; First Aid for Public Safety Personnel  is required. Possession of a Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI) is desirable.  Must attend the City of Sacramento Management Academy. Applicants selected will be screened with a physical examination, fingerprints and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test.

MANAGEMENT SENIOR LIFEGUARD:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, supervises the pool, decks and surrounding areas of an aquatic facility. Enforces rules and regulations, prevents accidents, performs water rescues and first aid, instructs and supervises aquatic activities such as swimming lessons and other aquatic programs.  Management Senior Guards will perform the duties of an on-site program supervisor.  May act as a Pool Manager at the current Pool Manager’s discretion.  Possesses knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, perform water rescues, CPR and First Aid. Follows oral and written instructions.  Performs daily maintenance tasks as assigned.

Must be at least 17 years of age. Follows oral and written instructions.  Performs daily maintenance tasks as assigned.

Employment Standards:

Must be 16 years of age. One year experience at an aquatic facility as a lifeguard/swim instructor.  Must be currently certified (or enrolled) in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid; First Aid for Public Safety Personnel  is required.  Applicants selected will be screened with a physical examination, fingerprints and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test.

LIFEGUARD:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, supervises the pool, decks and surrounding areas of an aquatic facility. Enforces rules and regulations, prevents accidents, performs water rescues and first aid, instructs and supervises aquatic activities such as swimming lessons and other aquatic programs. Possesses knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques. Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, perform water rescues, CPR and First Aid. Follows oral and written instructions.  Performs daily maintenance tasks as assigned.

Employment Standards:

Must be at least 16 years of age.  Must be currently certified (or enrolled) in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.  Applicants selected will be screened with a physical examination, fingerprints and must successfully complete a water skills and CPR test. 

CASHIER:

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager, performs cash handling functions and provides oversight of office at assigned aquatic facility.  Responsible for collection of pool admission fees, completing daily paperwork and maintaining order in the office area.  Assists safety staff in emergency situations.  Superior guest service and basic math skills are essential.  Performs daily maintenance tasks as assigned.

Employment Standards:

Must be at least 17 years of age.  Possesses the ability to operate a cash register, make correct change, and complete daily reports and paperwork.  Establishes and maintains effective relationships with the public and other employees. Applicants selected will be fingerprinted.
