Dog Days of Summer Splashes Into Sacramento

Sacramento, California, July 29, 2002 – In honor of National Aquatics Week, July 14-20, 2002, the City of Sacramento is “howling” about the DOG DAYS OF SUMMER . . . an aquatics event series scheduled for each council district for the enjoyment of residents of and visitors to the City of Sacramento!

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER is an event series component of the Aquatics Section of the Parks and Recreation Department. Imagine…a huge, floating, inflated DOG in the swimming pool from 5:30-7:30pm on a Friday evening! Family members (of all ages) flock to the pools for a FREE swim session with the DOG. On deck displays will decorate the pool side with water safety themed subjects, including The Benefits and Necessity of Sunscreen; Safety on Rivers and Lakes; and Learn to Live instructional programs including swim lessons, first aid and CPR class opportunities. Free water safety coloring books will be the highlight of coloring book activity stations on deck for the younger family members. Decorations will include colorful posters and banners with water safety "slogans" posted around the pool. Music (“Who Let the Dogs Out” plus others) will be playing. Swim Team members will be hosting a “no-host’ snack bar featuring hotdogs and sodas for sale as a swim team fund raiser,

The DOG DAYS OF SUMMER event series kicked off during National Aquatics Week on Friday, July 19, 2002 and continues into August. Event time for each date and location is 5:30-7:30pm. Admission is FREE!
