Robla Community Park Grand Opening Celebration
Saturday, October 19, 2002, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., 700 Block of Bell Avenue

Sacramento California, October 17, 2002 – A grand celebration is the agenda for the opening of Robla Community Park, an 18.5-acre multi-use park, located on Bell Avenue at Taylor Street in North Sacramento. Robla Community Park represents the only community park in this region of the City.

“It’s finally here. We’ve been waiting a long, long time for our community park and everyone is overjoyed,” said District 2 Councilmember Sandy Sheedy. “Our community has been anxiously awaiting the opening of the park and to enjoy the amenities that this park has to offer us.” Phase one construction of the park began exactly one-year ago.

The first phase of Robla Community Park construction includes a baseball field, soccer fields, children's playground, group picnic area, automatic irrigation system, landscape and turf planting, concrete walkways, street frontage and sidewalk improvements, and 40-car parking lot. Construction costs for the first phase of Robla Community Park were approximately $1.4 million. In addition, the State of California provided the City of Sacramento with a $143,000 grant towards the cost of the park development.

Future phases of the park’s development will include additional children’s play areas, wetland area, neighborhood activity center, basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court, jogging trail, fitness station, and a concession building.

A huge grand opening celebration has been planned for Saturday, October 19, 2002, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dedication ceremony, which includes remarks from the Mayor, City Councilmember, and State of California officials, will be held at Noon. Entertainment includes performances by the Taylor Street Hmong Dancers (11:30 a.m.), Glenwood Drill Team (11:45 a.m.), and Taylor Street Choir (Noon). More than 1,000 residents are expected to attend this celebration.
