Army Depot Little League Field Saved by
City of Sacramento
Opening Day Ceremony at Army Depot Little League
Okinawa Avenue and the 5800 block of Florin-Perkins Road
Sacramento, California, April 22, 2004
The plight of the Army Depot Little League of losing their prized baseball
field was saved when City Councilmember Dave Jones and the Department
of Parks and Recreation intervened and worked to preserve their baseball
field.
Hundreds of young baseball players and their parents
will gather on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 9 a.m. to witness and celebrate
as City Councilmember Dave Jones returns the keys of the Army Depot Little
League Field to the District 7 Army Depot Little League.
This is a great moment in time for these young
ball players to know and understand how important it is that we, as adults,
value our youngsters and their interest and enthusiasm in sports,
said City Councilmember Dave Jones. The future of Army Depot Little
League was in jeopardy, but the City of Sacramento stepped up to the plate
to help.
The Department of Parks and Recreation and the Army Depot
Little League have signed a new long-term lease that will ensure the use
of the field by the District 7 Little League for many years to come. Additionally,
the Department of Parks and Recreation is committed to help the Little
League with grant writing and searching for additional sources of funding,
as well as provide assistance with maintenance and consulting on maintenance
to guarantee the success of the District 7 Little League at the Army Depot
Little League Field.
The news media is invited to attend this event.
