Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony of the Grant Skills Center Gymnasium
Thursday, June 17, 2004, 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., 577 Las Palmas Avenue

Sacramento, California, June 15, 2004 – Vice Mayor Sandy Sheedy and Grant Superintendent Larry Buchanan will participate in the Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony of the Grant Skills Center Gymnasium. It’s at noon Thursday, June 17, 2004, at 577 Las Palmas Avenue.

The facility has been completely renovated. There’s a new air conditioning system, new floor and walls, scoreboard, bleachers, basketball hoops and fire alarm system. The project also included electrical power upgrades and restroom upgrades. The gymnasium is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

This project is a joint use effort between Grant Joint Union High School District and the City of Sacramento.

“The Grant Skills Center Gymnasium shows how beneficial a successful collaboration between the public schools, city government and local residents can be for the community at large,” says Vice Mayor Sandy Sheedy.

Construction funds for the $900,000 project came from Grant Joint Union High School District and the City of Sacramento’s Community and School Partnership Program.

“We’re pleased that the partnership has helped create a community recreational resource,” says Superintendent Buchanan. “We look forward to other opportunities to partner with the City of Sacramento.”
