River Cats Independence Field
at Samuel Pannell Meadowview Community Center,
2450 Meadowview Road
(near the corner of 24th Street and Meadowview Road)

Sacramento, California, June 8, 2006 – The Sacramento River Cats and the City of Sacramento’s Access Leisure Section of the Department of Parks and Recreation, are teaming up for the “5th Annual Baseball for All” event. More than 100 youth with disabilities and 100 parents will be on hand to enjoy a free skills clinic taught by current River Cats players at the new fully accessible, rubberized, “River Cats Independence Field” located at the Samuel Pannell Meadowview Community Center.

Each child has signed a media release form and still photo’s and videos are welcome to capture the joy of this experience and help us further educate our community that “Baseball IS For All”! The children and their families will enjoy a free catered lunch after the clinic. Also, each player received two free tickets, courtesy of major league player Greg Vaughn and his wife Michelle, to attend the River Cats, June 8th, 2006 game. Join in the fun!

The River Cats Independence Field, which opened in October of 2005, provides area youth ages 4 through school age a fully-accessible baseball field made of a rubberized surface ideal for players with physical challenges that use wheelchairs, walkers, crutches or no assistive devices. The Independence Field Youth Baseball Leagues include: a baseball league for youth with either physical or mental challenges; a wheelchair softball league for youth that use manual wheelchairs; and a power baseball league for youth that use electric powered wheelchairs.
