Press Conference: Mayor Heather Fargo and Councilmember
Raymond L. Tretheway Announce the Opening of Jibboom Street Park Alongside
the Riverfront:
Monday, December 4th, 9 a.m.
Sacramento, California, December 1, 2006—Newly
developed Jibboom Street Park, located at Jibboom Street at the Sacramento
River, will open for public use after completion of Phase Two of its development.
Four months of construction has created a beautiful park
that will soon be the choice destination attraction for pedestrians, bicyclists,
and individuals who wish to sightsee or picnic. The new park compliments
the architectural beauty of the Sacramento River Intake Station with aesthetically
pleasing landscaping that enhances the area’s natural characteristics.
A network of pedestrian walkways makes the park a great place for walking
while bicyclers using the Sacramento River Parkway bicycle trail now have
an ideal rest stop. The project was funded by the Proposition 13-River
Parkway Program; Proposition 12-Per Capita; and the Water Fund.
"The new Jibboom Street Park allows spectacular,
sweeping views of the Sacramento River as it drifts under two historic
bridges and past the Downtown, Old Sacramento and West Sacramento riverfronts.
Jibboom Street Park is another important asset meeting the goals of the
Sacramento Riverfront Master plan," said Mayor Heather Fargo.
The Jibboom Street Park project makes full use of one
of the City’s most important natural assets, its riverfront. “Jibboom
Street Park is a jewel to cap the Sacramento River,” said Councilmember
Raymond L. Tretheway, who represents the District where the new park is
located. “I invite all Sacramentans to stroll the bike trail, take
in the views of the river, and take a moment to rest and enjoy Sacramento’s
newest park.”
