City of Sacramento Department of

Parks and Recreation Community

Satisfaction Survey Results Now Available

Sacramento, California, October 11, 2006—Results from the Sacramento Department of Parks and Recreation Community Satisfaction Survey are now available. The survey, a follow-up to one conducted in 2003, measures residents’ satisfaction, priorities, usage, and willingness to pay for Parks and Recreation services and facilities.

Key survey results include:

• 94% of residents view the Department’s parks and recreation services as valued public resources
• 87% of residents are satisfied with the City’s Urban Forest
• 41% of residents gave high marks (A or B); 32% gave a satisfactory mark (C); 18% gave low marks (D or F); and 9% were unsure, when asked to grade the current level of overall security and public safety at public parks
• 60% of non-voters, and 63% of voters would prefer for the Department to increase user fees rather than cut back on programs/facilities, if City officials find there is insufficient money to fund current programs/facilities

The survey results are a powerful planning tool for the Department as it strives to continuously enhance residents’ quality of life through the provision of scenic parklands; facilities that foster a greater sense of community; and programs that address residents’ unmet needs. The survey results will also play a key role in updates to the City's Parks and Recreation Master Plan 2005-2010 document.

Complete survey results can be accessed by visiting the Department’s website, http://www.cityofsacramento.org/parksandrecreation/index.html.
