Dedication of Sacramento’s First Dog Park
Sunday, November 19, 2000, 2 p.m., 5699 Land Park Drive

Sacramento, California, November 16, 2000 – Hundreds of dogs and their human companions will be in attendance as the Mayor of Sacramento, Jimmie Yee, cuts the ribbon and opens the gate for the four-legged canines to run free at Sacramento’s first off leash dog park.
The two-acre gated dog park is located in the heart of Land Park - nestled between the City’s Utilities Department to the east and south - Belle Cooledge Community Center to the west – and Fruitridge Road to the north.

“We’ve been discussing this issue for a long time,” said Mayor Jimmie Yee, “and I am so very pleased that we’re opening this partner park before my mayoral duties come to a close.” Mayor Yee also said that this park represents the first of other off leash dog parks in the City of Sacramento that will be opened in the future.

Several organizations will be represented at this event, including the SPCA, City Animal Control, Police K-9 Unit, Fire Department Search and Rescue Canine Team, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Land Park Dog, and Animal Rescue. It all begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2000, at Belle Cooledge Community Center, 5699 Land Park Drive.
