Gold Rush Days Draws Huge Crowds Celebrating Sacramento's 150th Anniversary
Sacramento, September 5, 2000
- The grand finale for the City of Sacramento's yearlong celebration,
Gold Rush Days 2000, was a huge success drawing more than 120,000 visitors.
The four-day event, which ran from September 1st through September 4th,
transformed Old Sacramento back to the gold rush era, complete with dirt
streets, gold miners, wagon trains, horse soldiers, cannons, and living
history.
Gold Rush Days 2000 looked just as authentic as it did
during the gold rush era. There were miners' tents, saloons, a jail, a
blacksmith shop, an apothecary and theatre; workers dressed in period
costume; shops and saloons will sell the merchandise products and food
of the period; and street dramas, musicians and story tellers will provide
lively gold rush style entertainment.
Organizers have begun planning for next year's event.
Gold Rush Days 2000 was sponsored by the 150th Anniversary Office of the
City of Sacramento, Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau, State of
California Railroad Museum, Discovery Museum and Old Sacramento Management.
