Over 400 Trees to Be Planted in North Sacramento

Saturday, September 30, 2000 – 10 a.m. – 810 Grand Avenue

Sacramento, September 28, 2000 – Community organizations from throughout the city will join together with the Department of Parks and Recreation to plant more than 400 trees along the Sacramento northern parkway this Saturday, September 30, 2000, beginning at 10 a.m. A second planting will occur the following weekend on Saturday, October 7, 2000.

Several types of trees will be planted, including sycamores and a variety of oak trees. Once planted these trees will provide a beautiful canopy for joggers, bicyclists, skaters, and walkers. In addition, the trees will assist the environment to combat air pollution as well as offer new homes to the wildlife.

“We haven’t seen a tree planting on this scale in years,” said Laura Westrup, parks analyst for the City’s Department of Parks and Recreation. “Members from many community organizations will participate, including the Sacramento Tree Foundation, Boy Scouts, Rainbow Organization, and ACORN.

Media representatives are asked to arrive at the Firehouse Community Center, 810 Grand Avenue, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2000. For further information, please contact Laura Westrup at (916) 264-8117.
