Brown Bag Pharmacy
Know your medications and be aware of possible interactions! Gather your current prescriptions (the brown bag is optional) and bring them in to discuss the effects with a pharmacist from Pucci’s. Every first Monday of the month. Please call (916) 808-5462 or visit the Hart Center reception desk for an appointment. Free!

HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program)
HICAP is a non-profit organization designed to provide unbiased service to help seniors and the disabled decide what is best for their individual health care needs. In these one-on-one appointments, you can receive assistance with Medicare benefits and rights, appeals and denials, supplemental plans, government assistance plans, Part D Prescription Drug Program, and other health insurance information.

They serve current Medicare beneficiaries, persons about to become eligible for Medicare benefits, persons planning for retirement, older persons planning to purchase health insurance, and persons interested in future costs related to healthcare.

Our HICAP counselor is available every Monday by appointment only.

Senior Legal Hotline- Legal Workshops for Seniors
The Ethel Hart Center is proud to sponsor monthly workshops featuring current topics related to seniors and legal issues presented by Senior Legal Hotline. Examples of current topics include: reverse mortgages, fraud prevention and senior scams, foreclosures, and pensions. The workshops are held every 4th Thursday of the month and start at 1 pm. Please call or visit the reception desk to inquire about this month’s workshop topic.  Free!

Senior Legal Hotline – Individual Client Consultations
Following the monthly Legal Workshops, clients will be able to meet with Senior Legal Hotline advocates for individual client consultations.

To schedule a consultation, please call Senior Legal Hotline directly at (916) 551-2140 and press 3 to speak with a receptionist and request an individual appointment at the Hart Center. Free!

Free Tax Assistance
Each year, the Ethel Hart Center serves as a free tax preparation site. Certified AARP volunteers prepare taxes for hundreds of local seniors age 50+ during the week and the Franchise Tax Board (VITA) is here on Saturdays to assist people of any age. Both can prepare basic income tax returns for individuals and couples filing jointly that have low-to-moderate income (generally, $42,000 and below). Appointments are first come, first serve and typically begin in February and last through April 15th. Electronic filing available.
At the time of your appointment, please bring:

  • Proof of identification
  • Social Security Cards for you, your spouse, and dependents and/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration
  • Birth dates for you, your spouse, and dependents on the tax return
  • Current year’s tax package if you received one
  • Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
  • A copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available
  • Bank Routing Numbers and Account Numbers for Direct Deposit
  • Total paid for day care provider and the day care provider's tax identifying number (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number)
  • To file taxes electronically on a married filing joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms


Flu Clinics

Sacramento County holds immunization clinics annually at the Ethel Hart Center.
