Bob McCloskey

MEET Captain Bob McCloskey

Office of Investigations – Detectives Division

Captain Bob McCloskey currently serves as a Captain in the Office of Investigations, managing the Detectives Division.
Bob started his career with SPD in 1992 and has held assignments in Operations as an Executive Lieutenant, Watch Commander, and in Investigations as a Major Crimes Lieutenant. He also led the Training, Research & Development Division as a Captain.

Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Sacramento State University in 1991. He completed the Senior Management Institute for Police in 2018, and the FBI National Academy in 2019. Bob has been a member of the California Homicide Investigators Association (CHIA) since 2012 and served as CHIA President from 2013-2019. He was Employee of the Quarter for the Office of Investigations in 2013.

Bob is proud to have been a part of the Major Case Management System for the Office of Investigations.

Bob was drawn to a career in law enforcement following the events of March 7, 1990, when an 11-year-old Brooklyn boy, David Aupont, was abducted on his way to school, taken to a dingy garage, beaten, bound, and finally set on fire by another youth who tried to force him to smoke crack. This article that Bob read in the paper made him so mad that right then and there, he decided to do something about it, and he pursued a career in policing.

He attended college in Redding, transferred to CSU Sacramento for his Criminal Justice degree, and started working at SPD as a Student Trainee while attending CSUS. After graduating from CSUS, he attended the Sacramento Police Academy, and the rest is history.

Bob is a Redding, CA native. He is married to his best friend, Heidi, and they have three children: Jacob, Kyle, and Kayla, all of whom have entered careers in law enforcement.
