Figure 1- December 2013

Project Description

The project consisted of relocating 2.3 track miles of heavy rail, constructing passenger tracks to the north, utility modifications and new utilities, and constructing platforms, passenger tunnel, pedestrian tunnel, service tunnel, and providing pedestrian access from the existing depot building to the new platforms within the Sacramento Valley Station.

Benefits

The project opens up the Railyards site for development, including the future site of a multi-modal transportation facility. The project increases capacity and efficiency for both freight trains and passenger service. A safer passenger rail experience is created by separating freight and passenger traffic.

Costs and Funding

The total construction cost is $69 million. Funding is provided by Measure A (1/2 cent sales tax), state, federal, and private developer funds.

Schedule

Cutover to the new tracks and platforms was completed in August 2013.
