FLOOD DEPTH & EVACUATION MAPS

The City of Sacramento has prepared detailed maps showing hypothetical levee breaks for a 200-year flood event. These maps estimate the inundation levels and the time it would take for waters to rise in affected neighborhoods, and rescue and evacuation zones after 7 days without mitigation.

The City of Sacramento is heavily dependent on levees so it is important to take note of your possible evacuation routes although it may change depending on the levee break location. During a flood warning follow the evacuation instructions provided by emergency personnel. The emergency broadcast station for Sacramento is KFBK Radio 1530-AM.

VOLUNTARY EVACUATION

If a voluntary evacuation is announced, it means a levee failure is possible. People should take notice and leave while roads are still dry.

HIGH GROUND

Generally, you will not need to drive for hours to be safe if a levee fails. You only need to get to high ground. Plan ahead and make arrangements with family or friends whose homes are on high ground.

EVACUATION ROUTES

Do not assume that the evacuation routes shown on the maps will necessarily be your way out in a flood. Localized flooding, traffic accidents, and different flooding scenarios will all affect whether roads will be open. Emergency officials will monitor roads and let the public know through radio stations and other media if alternate routes should be taken.

SHELTERS

Emergency officials will open shelters as required. Shelter locations depend on where a levee break occurs and the associated flooding scenario.

If evacuations are necessary, shelter locations and information will be provided through TV and radio stations and through the City’s emergency alert systems.

Individuals with special-needs will be advised to call 311 for specific transportation and shelter location to meet their needs.

Possible Shelter Locations

This map is only informational. Shelter locations specific to the flood threat will be provide during the event. Please follow the instruction of emergency officials.
