South Sacramento Floodplain Remap

The City of Sacramento, the County of Sacramento, the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, the State Department of Water Resources, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed work to the Sacramento River and Morrison Creek levees. This work resulted in the FEMA re-mapping of the South Sacramento Floodplain.

Residents in South Sacramento now can qualify for lower cost Preferred Risk Flood Insurance Policies (PRP). These policies typically cost approximately $365 per year and cover both contents (up to $100,000) and structure (up to $250,000).

To convert your policy to a PRP, you will need to provide a copy of the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and a copy of the Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) to your insurance agent. Copies of the FIRMs for South Sacramento and the Letter of Map Revision are located below.

Effective May 12, 2014, a large portion of property within the South Sacramento Streams Group was remapped by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The new floodplain designation will remove some areas from the Special Flood Hazard Area and will allow residents and businesses to be eligible for lower-cost Preferred Risk Flood Insurance (PRPs).
A product of the National Flood Insurance Program, PRPs are available to most Sacramento property owners who have been released from the Federal flood insurance requirement.
