PROJECT NEWS

CREWS BEGIN PAVING PREPARATION ALONG 9TH STREET FOR NIGHT WORK NEXT WEEK

Crews continue to work Saturdays and longer weekday shifts to complete remaining work as soon as possible. Remaining sewer laterals and storm drain work is occurring block by block on the east side of 9th Street from I to L streets using temporary traffic control cones that are setup and taken down each day. Check out the project map for details regarding upcoming wrap up activities. Final grinding and paving for the entire corridor is expected to occur October 15-18 (starting at L Street and working north) and be complete by late October/early November. Bike lane striping/painting and final work activities will occur the week of October 29. Note: Work hours for grinding & paving activities will occur at night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and will require traffic detours.

CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARDED

City Council awarded a construction contract on April 25, 2017 to McGuire and Hester for the 9th Street corridor, which is the first construction phase of the Downtown Sewer Upgrade. Construction along 9th Street was expected to begin in August; however, after completing much potholing and investigation work, it was determined that additional work from outside utilities such as PG&E and fiber optic companies needed to occur before the sewer upgrade could continue. These activities occurred through the downtown holiday moratorium, mostly night work up until Christmas. The sewer upgrade along the 9th Street corridor began after the first of the year and will last through summer 2018.
