The SactoYouth Website centralizes youth related information, resources and opportunities. The website features seven youth specific categories including: youth employment, youth events, opportunities to join boards and commissions, youth programs and resources, youth grants, educational opportunities, and preventing youth and gang violence. There is currently no other website in Sacramento that is created for youth and maintained by youth. Phase 1 of the website is up and running with plans to launch phase 2 this fall.

Website Category Description

Youth employment- In a series of focus groups Sacramento youth repeatedly indicated that they are interested in seeking and securing employment. This page includes the following features: employment opportunities with the City of Sacramento, a youth job posting page, tips on finding a job, a list of career centers and youth specialists, volunteer opportunities, and internship opportunities.

Youth events- There are dozens of safe, youth friendly events that take place each week. Interactive youth event calendars share information about current youth events in the city. Calendared items can include: youth conferences, coffee shop events, live music, art shows, dances, faith based events, teen center activities and all other youth related events.

Opportunities to join boards and commissions- In Sacramento, California’s capital city there are numerous opportunities for youth to play a role in policy/decision making. This webpage features all of those opportunities including current openings, stipends, youth’s role, meeting times and purpose. This webpage will give youth a productive way to be a catalyst for change in their communities.

Youth programs and resources- In Sacramento, there are hundreds of youth serving organizations. In this webpage youth can search for resources and programs that fit into their current needs. This is a valuable tool for when youth are in a crisis and do not know who to call or if they are looking for ongoing programs and activities that are close to home.

Youth grants- There are numerous funding opportunities that youth can apply for that are used to improve their surrounding communities. In Sacramento over $50,000 in funding is dispersed directly to youth annually. This webpage provides an opportunity for ALL youth to learn about grant funding opportunities that they can apply for.

Educational opportunities- This page includes information related to mainstream and alternative education for high school, trade school and college. Many Sacramento youth are not on track to graduate high school and the can use this tool to seek out alternative education opportunities. If the youth is on-track to graduate they can also find hundreds of scholarships and sign up for free tutoring.
