Change in Research Hours at SAMCC

Wednesdays     4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Thursdays         8:15 a.m. to noon
Fridays             8:15 a.m. to noon

City of Man, City of God:
The Catholic Church and the Shaping of Sacramento

City of Man, City of God

A new photographic exhibit, City of Man, City of God: The Catholic Church and the Shaping of Sacramento, is now on display in SAMCC’s reading room. The exhibit depicts the role that people of faith played in shaping Sacramento’s urban agenda, from the 1850s to today.  The exhibit will run through the end of November.  It is free and open to the public and can be seen without an appointment during regular research hours.

The Catholic Church, present in Sacramento from the city’s beginnings, has had an important influence on Sacramento’s culture and development. Yet the character of Catholic life has also been shaped by the city’s diverse social, cultural, and political makeup. Inspired by Dr. Steven M. Avella’s new book, Sacramento and the Catholic Church: Shaping a Capital City, the exhibit depicts the interplay between the city and a community of faith in the creation of Sacramento’s urban agenda.

Notice of Temporary Restriction
to Film Collections

Access to film and video collections at SAMCC will be restricted beginning July 1, 2009 as our film/video lab undergoes a long planned for renovation. It is anticipated that the work will be completed and the collection will made available again to patrons by September 1st. We appreciate your patience as we work to provide greater access the collections and streamline reproduction requests.
