CITY OF SACRAMENTO
TERRORISM-RELATED INFORMATION

January - 2002

The events of September 11, 2001 have increased public concern about the possibility of terrorist threats in our community. While there has been no terrorist activity or credible threats reported in Sacramento, the City maintains a comprehensive plan to respond to emergency issues that might arise. In addition, the City has implemented important safety steps:

City of Sacramento Emergency Response Plan

The City’s Police and Fire Departments are the lead agencies for all local emergency response efforts. Staff in both departments received specialized training to deal with terrorist threats and activities. The City also has a full-time Emergency Services Officer (ESO) who is responsible for ensuring that Sacramento’s emergency response plans are up-to-date and implemented properly. The ESO also facilitates cooperation between agencies that would be involved in emergency response.

In the event of any emergency, the public will be notified via local and metro cable television, radio stations and other means (including personal contact, if necessary). In a timely and efficient manner, information will be provided as to the nature of the emergency and any actions the public may need to take. The goal of the City is to respond in an effective and orderly manner to ensure the safety and the well-being of our entire community.
