Neighborhood Code Compliance

Neighborhood Code Compliance is charged with handling community and neighborhood nuisances such as illegal dumping, abandoned or inoperable vehicles, graffiti, and zoning violations.

The Neighborhood Code Compliance division works to improve the quality of life in Sacramento's neighborhoods through awareness, education and enforcement. Removal of illegally dumped debris, or accumulated trash and junk from public and private property is a primary function. Code Enforcement Officers are responsible for abating zoning violations including unlawful use of land, illegal street vendors, continuous yard sales (only one per residence per year is allowed), large-scale recycling in residential areas, illegal fences and illegal camping in vehicles.

Common Code Violations

  • Illegal dumping of garbage on public or private property.
Junk and debris, such as old furniture, car parts, appliances or other visual nuisances.
  • Inoperable or abandoned vehicles on public streets and private property.
  • Zoning requirement violations for structures and land use requirements, including the use of the structure, location, configuration and size.
  • The illegal placement of fences, located in the front yards, street side yards, abutting alleys or other public right-of-ways.
  • Parking vehicles on unimproved surfaces. Unimproved surfaces can include but are not limited to: lawn, dirt, gravel and plywood.
  • Graffiti on public or private property.

Use the online form to report illegal dumped debris, accumulated trash and junk, abandoned or inoperable vehicles on city streets and private property, or zoning violations. Or you can call the Code Enforcement Department at (916) 808-5948 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
