Front Street Enforcement Team

The City of Sacramento spans 100 square miles. There are 7 Animal Control Officers serving the city 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Sacramento's Animal Control Officers are entrusted to provide rabies control, protect the public from dangerous animals and protect the city's animals from abuse and neglect. All of our officers take this responsibility very seriously, working hard to advance the human-animal bond and educate the public on humane pet care.

We have Animal Control Officers on duty from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days per week, as well as an officer on call for emergencies from 8pm to 8am every night. Officers respond to many types of calls ranging from animals being loose or tethered, severely injured animals requiring immediate medical attention, animal bites, deceased animals on city property, and general concerns for animal welfare. Sacramento City Animal Control Officers receive an average of 18,000 requests for service a year.

When our Officers encounter an animal cruelty situation, they complete a thorough investigation, prepare criminal reports, present the case to the District Attorney’s Office and testify in court when needed. It is this dedication to keeping Sacramento's pets safe that set our Officers apart.

We truly believe our Officers are the cream of the crop when it comes to dedication, compassion and fair enforcement of local ordinances and state laws. You can report cruelty 24 hours a day by calling 916-808-7387.
