Bathroom Remodels
When designing the bathroom, remember the following:
- Verify that the minimum size requirements are met for showers and water closet/toilet spaces. The minimum requirements at final for a shower enclosure are that a circle with a minimum diameter of a 30 inches must be able to be placed inside the enclosure and there must be a minimum of 1,024 square inches of floor area. The water closet/toilet must have a clear space of 30 inches in width and 24 inches in the front.
- Verify sizing of the drain vents for the Drain/Waste and Venting System (DWV System) for all new appliances.
- If adding a large soaking tub or multi head shower, the water supply may need to be enlarged and/or increased from the building water supply line. Ensure the water heater will meet the minimum requirements to serve the new tub/shower.
- If the new tub is a hydro turbo with a motor, verify access to, and the location for, the Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter as well as the motor and electrical supply for servicing.
- Ensure the minimum requirements for natural ventilation are met by using a window with an opening that is a minimum of 5% of the floor area. In lieu of a window opening, a mechanical exhaust vent/fan (venting to the exterior of the structure) may be used.
- Gas-fired or solid fuel fired appliances cannot be in the room without obtaining combustion air from an outside source.
