Historic Places Grant Program

& Sacramento Heritage, Inc.

The City of Sacramento and Sacramento Heritage, Inc. are pleased to announce a call for applications for Round One (of Four Rounds) of the Historic Places Grant Program. The program is intended to facilitate the preservation of historic properties, residential and commercial structures and sites, throughout the City of Sacramento. Sacramento Heritage, Inc. will evaluate applications against various criteria (Attachment 1 (PDF - 14 KB)) and will select winning applicants by November 30, 2007.

The Historic Places Grant Program provides grants from $1,000 to $24,999. Grants require a 1:1 match and are awarded on a reimbursement basis. If property sold within five years of receipt of grant funds, funds shall be returned to the City on a pro-rata basis. Projects undertaken with grant funds may require compliance with State Labor Code regarding prevailing wage. A waiver of the match requirement may be considered if the applicant can demonstrate their household annual income does not exceed 80% of the median in Sacramento County for the preceding year.

Eligibility

Property eligible for the grant program must be either:

  1. A designated City Landmark, or a Contributing Resource in a designated City Historic District; or,
  2. Determined eligible as a City Landmark or Contributing Resource and a nomination application has been submitted.

Work for which the grant is requested must meet all the conditions below:

  1. Comply with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties (Attachment 2)
  2. Either exterior work, or work that affects the exterior of the structure including foundation or structural work, or work on significant publicly-accessible interiors;
  3. Information must be provided by the applicant that indicates the work can be completed within the proposed budget and schedule;
  4. Work must be completed per the approved project, budget and schedule.
