In 2008, the City's Redevelopment Agency acquired all properties on the south end of the 700 Block of K Street, and several properties on the 800 block. Planned uses on these two blocks include mixed use/destination retail for the 700 block, and a hotel on the 800 block.

Discovery Centre Hotel
The Discovery Centre Hotel will feature five story, 200 room hotel. The fully entitled project, located on Richards Boulevard with easy access to Interstate 5, is expected to get underway in 2010.
On January 5, 2006 the City Council selected KSWM Docks Partners to exclusively negotiate the development of the Docks Area. The developer's draft concept plan will be based on plans developed by the community and will include a mix of residential, commercial and open space.
Once the brownfield cleanup at Jibboom Street Powerstation is complete, the Sacramento Museum of History, Science and Technology proposes to build the “Powerhouse Science Center� on the site, which will include a science, space and technology museum in the rehabilitated Power Station, with adjacent a restaurant and educational center, a planetarium, and an inviting open space park area with amphitheater.
Proposed mixed-use redevelopment of the 240-acre Union Pacific Railyards to include residential, hotel, retail and commercial uses. The area would be divided into distinct districts, each with their own identity. The plan proposes 12,000 housing units along with office, hotel, retail and entertainment properties. The residential component would offer a variety of housing types from high-rise riverfront condominiums to town homes, apartments and lofts.
Positioned along the American River in the River District redevelopment area of Sacramento, Township Nine is a 65-acre mixed use urban development designed for 2,500 potential homes. With a balanced blend of distinct housing types, office space and retail, Township Nine promises to be Sacramento's most vibrant and livable community.
The Ebner/Empire Hotel project will replicate the original 1856 hotel and add to the Gold Rush-era ambiance of the historic district. This 24,500 square foot building will activate the K Street walkway by providing attractive ground floor retail as well as second and third floor office space.
Partnering with the Department of Transportation, Economic Development is conducting a study to examine the benefits and associated impacts of returning cars to K Street.
The study, which will be completed in early 2010, will look at options for incorporating vehicular and bicycle traffic to the current pedestrian and light rail activities on K Street between 8th and 12th streets.
The 14 acre Sacramento riverfront promenade will be extended to Broadway and Miller Park. The first phase will be to extend the promenade to R Street and create bicycle and pedestrian pathways, river overlooks, a .37 acre park, landscaping, and railings along the river.
The City has entered into a lease with Greyhound to move its downtown terminal, currently on 7th and L streets, to a new bus facility on Richards Boulevard, north of the Railyards. The new terminal will be located at 420 Richards Blvd. on vacant City-owned property.
This project will add three venues on K Street between 10th and 11th streets, including a dance club for the over 30 crowd, a vintage "dive bar", and a rustic gourmet pizzeria. The 26,000 square foot complex will create more than 100 jobs and attract nearly 4,000 to 5,000 patrons to downtown each week.
The City of Sacramento is making streetscape enhancements to the 700 Block of K Street. The project will include new and consistent paving materials, street furniture, trash receptacles, landscaping, lighting, enhanced intersection treatments and gateway elements.
The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA), in partnership with D & S Development, is moving forward on a proposal to renovate the Historic Maydestone Apartments on the southeast corner of 15th and J. The Maydestone Apartments have been vacant for five years and underutilized for decades.

California Highway Patrol
California Highway Patrol has signed a 20-year lease for space at Continental Plaza on North 7th Street. More than 900 employees from CHP Headquarters Staff Operations will occupy the 295,000 square foot facility.

Citizen Hotel
The Citizen Hotel is located 2.5 blocks from the California Capitol and features a mansard roof, soaring ceilings and marble walls. There are 198 guest rooms on 14 floors, including 5 Penthouse Suites, 12 King Suites, and 6 Junior Suites.
The renovation of the old "Woolworth" building at 10th and K created an exciting mixed-use urban hub that is just steps form the State Capitol. Junior Suites. The building is 52,000 sf/10,000 office.
In September 2009, the Crest Theater marquee was relit after four months of renovation that included a re-worked neon sign while the 95 foot sign itself was scraped, re-painted and re-wired.
An 80-year old former car dealership in a historic structure was converted into a historic structure and turned it into Sacramento’s first integrated mixed-use building. The historic Elk's building, located on the corner of 11th and J streets, has been renovated to include ground floor restaurant space for McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant. The building is also undergoing office space upgrades.

Firestone Building
The Firestone Building was renovated into an entertainment complex complete with several new restaurants. The project designer, Vrilakas Architects, was asked to preserve the Art Deco look of the building, which Firestone occupied from 1929 until 2004.

K Street West (Roos Atkins Building)
This building was originally constructed in 1902 and was remodeled into the Roos Atkins Building in 1946. The historic six-story building was rehabilitated and made more functional for modern office uses. Located just one block from the Capitol, the building was renamed "K-Street West" to appeal to lobbyists familiar with Washington DC's "K Street," where many of the nation's top lobbying firms are located.
