Welcome to the Economic Development (ED) Strategy Web page. Here you will find a description of the ED Strategy planning effort, updates and information on how to get involved in the process. In addition, full text reports, meeting updates and documents will be posted, as well as a schedule of ED Strategy process.
Background (back to top)
The Economic Development Department recently commenced work on an Economic Development Strategy for the City of Sacramento . The purpose of this process is to develop the ED Strategy and a five-year work plan for the Economic Development Department. The ED Strategy will be completed with the help of two consulting firms: Economic and Planning Systems (EPS) and ICF Consulting. The goal is to complete the ED Strategy and five-year work plan by the end of the year.
This website will be maintained so those interested in the process can view the background report, the input and feedback from the various meetings and review the draft Strategy and Work Plan prior to Council adoption. It is anticipated that the recommended Strategy will be brought forward to the Council in early November for adoption.
Economic Development Strategy Process (back to top)
A broad but efficient outreach and strategy development process is currently underway. Three separate targeted focus groups will be held in August to help the City and their consultant team formulate and seek input from key interests and the general public. On August 9th, the first of three focus group meetings was conducted with City Staff, SHRA Staff and Commercial Corridor and Area Business Association Directors. The process continues on August 25th with two additional focus groups. The second group will concentrate on the professional economic development, business attraction, and business assistance community, while the third group will focus on major business sectors, major employers and the real estate development community.
In addition, key informant interviews have been and will continue to be held throughout the process. Input from these focus group meetings and the interviews will be used to refine existing strategies and to help develop new ones. Once the strategies are in near final form, a series of three geographic area meetings (north, central and south) will be held to present the draft strategies for community review and feedback.
Background Report (back to top)
