About the Area
Downtown Sacramento is one of the most active redevelopment areas in the City. Downtown is burgeoning into a day and night time location that offers fine dining, unique boutique shopping, hotels, entertainment, events and cultural festivals. With a downtown daytime population of more than 100,000, other population sectors converge downtown because of its:
- large convention center that drew more than 200,000 in 2008
- concerts, museums, performances, sports venues and other events that drew nearly 4 million in 2008
- assortment of dining options - with more than 150 restaurants - from fine dining to trendy and casual
- growing housing opportunities for all family types, from condos and townhomes to penthouse units and lofts
- increasing number of hotel rooms
- array of cultural activities including outdoor festivals, farmers markets, art showcases, and music concerts - all of which have a regional draw from surrounding cities
Reinvestment in downtown continues to be a top priority of the City of Sacramento. Plans are underway to encourage development opportunities that will further spur local tourism and convention growth, establish downtown as an attractive regional destination, and create a catalyst for additional hotel, residential, office and retail development.
