What is a City Operator?

As part of the City of Sacramento’s Department of General Services, City Operators are real people who answer calls from both external and internal City customers.  We do not have a phone tree, so you can expect quick service from a live person!

We are a central point of contact, available to direct callers to the appropriate City departments.  Sacramento City Operators assist in demystifying government, while working to simplify interactions quickly and efficiently.  Getting the customer to success is our primary goal. Our daily mission is to leave you saying "Wow", that was great service!

In brief, the following describes services currently made available by City Operators:

During normal business hours, Sacramento City Operators provide:

  • Directory assistance for City departments and staff

  • General information about City services and facilities

  • Assistance with missed garbage, general code violations, general animal care calls and anything having to do with storm, sewer, water and drain services.

Sacramento City Operators provide critical after-hours non-emergency services by dispatching crews to respond to:

  • Fallen trees
  • Stray and injured animals
  • Clogged storm drains
  •  Missed garbage service
  • Traffic signal malfunctions
  • Sewer or water main break
  • And a variety of other services

When in doubt, give us a call. If we can't help, we will find someone who can!

City Operators also offer assistance in navigating the City’s web services and will offer interactive instructions on how to get to a City site and facilitate filing reports on-line.
