SHELTER & FIELD SERVICE FEES


Beginning on August 27th, the shelter will NO LONGER be able to provide FIELD SERVICE (i.e. dispatching an animal control officer to your residence) for the following situations:
  • Surrendering an owned animal
  • Picking up a trapped or confined stray cat
  • Removing a deceased animal (including wildlife) off private property

If you reside within the city limits of Sacramento, then you may bring in a stray or owned animal to the shelter's Reception Center on Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Fees apply if an owner surrenders his/her pet.

In the case of a deceased animal, you may deposit the body in a solid waste receptacle if the animal weighs 10 pounds or less.

If you reside outside the city limits of Sacramento, then you must surrender the animal with the appropriate animal control agency that covers your city or county:

OWNER-REDEMPTION & IMPOUND FEES

The number of times (i.e. 1st impound, 2nd impound, 3rd impound, or 4th impound) that an animal is reclaimed by his/her owner is based on the last 24 months.

If a dog a or cat is impounded a 2nd time for being off the owner's property and a dog or cat is NOT spayed or neutered, then it is mandatory that the dog or cat be spayed or neutered prior to the release (according to Sacramento City Code 9.44.190).
