Penny Cistaro, Animal Care Services Manager, (916) 808-7433 January 12, 2010 Dogs Rescued from South Sacramento Well Leaving City of Sacramento Animal Shelter
WHERE: WHEN:
SACRAMENTO, CA -- Two dogs - a Chow mix and a German Shepherd mix - rescued by City of Sacramento Animal Control Officers and Firefighters from a 20-foot-deep well on the 4100 block of Franklin Boulevard earlier this month, will be leaving the City Animal Shelter to be cared for by an animal rescue organization, Friends of Sacramento City Shelter Animals. No one has come forward to claim ownership of the dogs. The City of Sacramento Animal Care Services has been providing shelter and care for these two wonderful dogs over the last 10 days. The dogs have been altered and will now go to an animal rescue organization to find permanent loving homes for these companion animals. To learn more about the City shelter and the wonderful animals waiting to be adopted, please visit the Animal Care Services Center at 2127 Front Street, call (916) 808-7387, or view the animals online at www.sacpetsearch.com. SACRAMENTO, CA -- Beginning Saturday, January 23, pet owners in need can request an appointment to have their pets spayed or neutered for just $20 per dog and $15 per cat as part of the 11th Annual “Spay Day Sacramento. Appointments are required and must be made in advance starting on Saturday, January 23 by calling 916-808-SPAY [7729]. Residents of Sacramento, Yolo and Placer Counties with an annual household income of $35,000 or less are eligible to have up to two (2)pets (cats and dogs only) spayed or neutered at participating veterinary clinics on February 28 as part of Spay Day Sacramento 2010. On Saturday, January 23, the Spay Day appointment request line opens. Demand for this event is high and appointments fill up fast, so eligible pet owners should call 916-808-SPAY [7729] early to increase their chances of getting an appointment. Spaying or neutering dogs and cats leads to better health and improved behavior and reduces the number of animals entering area shelters. The price of $15 per cat and $20 per dog represents a huge savings for pet owners. Spay Day representatives are available for phone and on-camera interviews. Call Alexis Raymond at (916) 204-3831 to arrange an interview. Spay Day is organized by the Sacramento Area Animal Coalition (SAAC), a nonprofit organization committed to eliminating pet overpopulation in the Sacramento area through aggressive spay/neuter efforts. In ten years, SAAC has spayed and neutered more than 5,300 pets as part of Spay Day Sacramento. It has been the largest one-day spay/neuter event in the country since 2001. Major support for Spay Day is provided by Bayer HealthCare. Additional sponsors include the City of Elk Grove Animal Services, Fort Dodge Animal Health, Sacramento Magazine, Sacramento SPCA, Teaching Everyone Animals Matter, United Animal Nations, Wag Hotels, Yolo County Animal Services, Yolo SPCA, City of Sacramento Animal Care Services, The Humane Society of the United States, MWI Veterinary Supply, Placer SPCA, Sacramento Valley Veterinary Medical Association, and Sierra Printing & Office Supply. In recognition, the Sacramento SPCA, the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services, and the Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation are offering a special on cats one year-of-age and older. Through June 30, the adoption fee on adult cats will be waived at all three shelters. Due to uncontrolled breeding, especially during the warmer spring and summer months, area shelters are overburdened with hundreds of kittens needing homes. And because kittens are so appealing to many, adult cats tend to wait at shelters longer - unadopted. There are many benefits to adopting an adult cat, including known personality traits, mellower dispositions, established litterbox habits, and none of the unpredictable behavior that comes with kittenhood. To date this year, more than 9,000 homeless cats and kittens have been received by Sacramento's three major animal shelters alone (Sacramento SPCA, City of Sacramento Animal Care Services, and Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation). Visit your favorite Sacramento animal shelter today and adopt an adult cat today! There are an estimated 60 million homeless cats nationwide, and uncontrolled breeding is the cause. A fertile female cat can produce three litters of kittens per year. If just one cat and each of her offspring reproduce regularly, they can produce 420,000 kittens in just seven years. Due to this overpopulation crisis, approximately 71% of cats and kittens entering shelters are euthanized annually. Media Contact: Rhea Serran (916) 402-5091 June 29, 2010 Be Patriotic! Adopt a Red, White, or Blue Dog or Cat for $17.76
The City Animal Shelter urges you to be patriotic this Independence Day and adopt a lovable red, white, or blue (gray) dog or cat. Just in time to celebrate July 4th, adoption fees have been reduced to only $17.76. The adoption fee (up to a $200 value!) includes alteration (spay or neuter), vaccinations, a one-year City of Sacramento animal license, microchip identification, and a collar. Adopting shelter animals directly helps reduce the suffering caused by pet overpopulation and unnecessary euthanasia of healthy animals. Prior to adopting a pet, please consider the life-long commitment, time, and money that a pet requires. To learn more about adopting an animal or about spaying and neutering, please visit the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services Center at 2127 Front Street, or call (916) 808-PETS (7387), or log on to www.sacpetsearch.com. Sacramento, CA -- While the weather is HOT, adopt a COOL cat and save BIG. Sacramento animal shelters announce the Cat Days of Summer - a HOT weather, COOL cats adoption special - beginning July 1 and running through August 31. Throughout the Cat Days of Summer, the Sacramento SPCA, City of Sacramento Animal Care Services, and Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation are waiving the adoption fee on adult cats (one year or older) and are offering two-for-one kitten adoptions for approved adopters. There has been a significant increase in the number of cats and kittens entering Sacramento animal shelters this year. Sacramento animal shelters will care for thousands and thousands of cats and kittens in 2010. To help combat the issue of shelter over-crowding and place more cats and kittens in new homes, Sacramento's three major animal shelters have come together to offer the Cat Days of Summer promotion. Adopt a shelter cat today. For more information, visit your local shelter or check out the websites at the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services, the Sacramento SPCA, and the County of Sacramento Animal Care and Regulation. September 1, 2010 SEPTEMBER IS ADOPT-A-SHELTER-PET MONTH
Sacramento, CA -- September is Adopt-A-Shelter-Pet Month, and the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services and the Sacramento SPCA are celebrating! In recognition of this special month, the shelters are offering free adult cat adoptions, 2-for-1 kitten adoptions, and a black kitten adoption special. There is a deal for everyone this month. Throughout September, the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services and the Sacramento SPCA will waive the adoption fee on adult cats for approved adopters. If a kitten is more your speed, both shelters will waive the adoption fee on one kitten when you adopt a pair. And, finally, if you adopt one or more black kittens, the shelters will waive adoption fees on a pair! There are many benefits to adopting a pair of cats or kittens. Cats are sociable animals and often enjoy the company of another cat. Cats that have been raised together will often form an especially strong bond. Having a pair of cats can help relieve the boredom and destruction that often comes with lack of stimulation in a single cat household. A pair of cats can provide each other with exercise, social and mental stimulation, and often help with grooming as well. Cats living together have the opportunity to just be cats, playing and interacting with one another. For more information or to view some of our adoptable cats, visit the websites at the City of Sacramento Animal Care Services or the Sacramento SPCA.
