Risk Management Division Information
The City of Sacramento is exposed to various risks of loss related to workers' compensation and liability claims as well as damage or destruction of City assets for which the City self insures and/or carries commercial insurance. The Risk Management Division is responsible for assisting departments in preventing these occurrences and paying for any losses that may arise. The Risk Management Division is comprised of three separate units: Loss Prevention, Workers' Compensation and Risk Administration.
Loss Prevention The Loss Prevention unit is responsible for the environmental health and safety programs for the City. Some of the key duties include OSHA compliance, DOT and DMV compliance, return-to-work programs, non-industrial medical programs, contractual risk transfer and insurance verification. Workers' Compensation Workers' Compensation handles all the claims for City employees and volunteers who are injured on the job. The City self administers our workers' compensation claims which means that Workers' Compensation staff manages all of our claims internally. Risk Administration Risk Management Administration is responsible for risk financing and the budget, insurance, and liability claims. The City of Sacramento utilizes York Insurance Services Group, a third-party administrator, to handle liability claims filed against the City. To file a claim.
