Kevin Johnson was elected as the 55th mayor of the City of Sacramento in November 2008 and re-elected to a second term in June 2012. He is the first native Sacramentan, and the first African American to be elected to the office.

The Sacramento City Council consists of a Mayor, elected by all City voters, and eight Council members, elected to represent separate districts in the City.
The City will offer free parking on weekdays after 4:30 p.m. and all-day on weekends starting Nov. 25 through Dec. 25 in midtown and Old Sacramento.

Mayor Kevin Johnson’s Downtown Housing Initiative will support the City’s unprecedented growth through the development of 10,000 places to live in Downtown Sacramento over the next 10 years. The purpose of the initiative is to create a better regulatory environment to streamline processes and encourage downtown development.
