Message from Mayor Johnson

Statement from Mayor Johnson regarding horse-drawn carriages in Old Sacramento and a request from PETA to ban the carriages after a crash involving an alleged drunk driver:

"While I appreciate concerns about the health and safety of all animals, the incident in Old Sacramento last week was caused by a drunk driver, not a horse-drawn carriage. I would like to see drunk drivers vanish from our streets, not horses. Carriages are part of the charm of Old Sacramento. The horses are well taken care of and appear to be very proud of their work."
