Urban Forest Services
The City of Sacramento has a long and proud history as the “City
of Trees”. Sacramento’s urban forest is estimated to include
approximately 1.6 million trees. Approximately 120,000 trees are estimated
to be publicly owned. Urban Forest Services is tasked with management
of the City’s public urban forest. Improved property values,
energy conservation, air quality and community pride are all benefits
of a healthy and well managed forest. Historically, Sacramento’s
political leaders and citizenry have supported trees and tree plantings,
passing tree planting ordinances as early as 1853, only four years after
the town was founded by John Sutter.
Urban Forest Services is made up of the following sections:
- Arborists: Arborists are tasked with planning, inspections, assessments,
and outreach and education efforts regarding the Urban Forest Services
programs.
- Tree Maintenance: Tree Maintenance crews are tasked with tree planting,
young tree maintenance, disease suppression, and pesticide application.
