9th Annual Meadowview Jazz and Cultural Festival Expected to Break Records

Sacramento California, May 29, 2002 – Final touches are being made for the upcoming 9th Annual Meadowview Jazz and Cultural Festival, occurring on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Meadowview Park in South Sacramento. Annually the event draws more than 10,000 people.

This year’s featured entertainers are The Dramatics, the Emotions and Bloodstone. In addition, several local well-known entertainers will round out the festival, including Funk Lords, Qwen Mejia, Dewey Parker and Carl & Sam. There’s plenty for the entire family, including food booths, cultural displays and kids activities.

“We expect this year’s Meadowview Jazz and Cultural Festival to be the best ever,” said Councilmember Bonnie Pannell. “Each year our festival gets bigger and better. Also, we will have Athletes in Touch present ‘All that Jazz 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament,’ starting mid-morning at the Pannell-Meadowview Community Center outdoor courts.” Councilmember Pannell said that the basketball tournament is open to boys and girls 11-16 years old. Parents or guardians interested in registering their children in the basketball tournament may call (916) 427-3258.

The 9th Annual Meadowview Jazz and Cultural Festival is sponsored by Councilmember Bonnie Pannell, The City of Sacramento, The Sacramento Bee, Kaiser Permanente, George Phillips, University of California Davis, Teacher & Son, Sacramento Kings, SMUD, Sutter Medical Center, Village Properties/Walgreen’s, Lewis Operating Corp., Sacramento Consolidated Charities, PG&E, Peninsula Retail Partners, Nehemiah Corp, Sacramento Building & Trades, Sacramento Firefighters, Wells Fargo Bank, Coca Cola, Raley’s and Bel Air.

Gates open at 1 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 2 p.m. Advanced ticket prices are $5 available at the Pannell Meadowview Community Center and City Hall Revenue Office. Tickets at the gate are $10 and children 12 and under are admitted free. The 9th Annual Meadowview Jazz and Cultural Festival is located at Meadowview Park, 24th Street and Teekay Way, in the heart of South Sacramento.
