Department of Parks and Recreation Embarks on
Master Plan Development
Public Meetings to be held in October and November
Sacramento, California, September 8, 2003
Urban sprawl, serving the needs of a growing population, limited resources,
demand for new services, and the future of Sacramentos urban forest
are just some of the challenges and issues facing the Department of Parks
and Recreation in the 21st century.
A comprehensive update of the Citys Parks and Recreation
Master Plan is currently underway to set forth a new vision and direction
for the department as it strives to meet the challenges of a growing Sacramento.
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan will be presented to the Mayor and
City Council in early 2004. The Parks and Recreation Master Plan will:
Document the benefits provided by parks and recreation
services to residents and visitors of Sacramento;
Chart the growth, priorities and agenda for parks and
recreation for the next 5 years;
Establish policies to guide decision making by City staff
and officials.
Analyzing community needs and wants is the foundation
of the master plan, and a series of public meetings is planned. At each
of these meetings, the public can participate by making comments to the
convenors.
